Connected 80 Watt appliance in Europe and the converter burned in 2 hours. I bought a new 200 Watt in Europe but different brand and used it for the rest of time.

I purchased two of these for my trip to West Africa. Both of them burned out within one minute of use. Either these are designed for a more European Grid or something, or they are just terrible. Please do not buy these, spend a little more money on something that will actually work.

I have recently moved to europe. I bought two of these Simran converters. The first one lasted about two weeks before it went up in smoke (it was hooked to an applicance which used 130 watts)...during the time it worked it put off a ton of heat compaired to the other converters I own. The other one lasted lasted 2 days...again..smoke...not really what I was looking for. I have one from Brookstone, which is only rated up to 85 watts that handles more than this Simran converter. I see others have noted that it is a good product; I did not have that experience with the two I owned, which are now off to the dumpster.

This product burned out the second time it was used. It was used first with a cell phone charger and then a laptop computer. I left in the trash can in our hotel in Rome.

We live in Malawi and bought these converters for some of our USA appliances. We bought 2. They both blew out within minutes of bring plugged in. And, yes, we followed the watts and volts suggested by the product. Not a good product.

I bought the device for a lamp 3x40 watts output (maximum output for the converter is said to be 200 watts), and the device stopped working after 24h.
Very disappointed.

Bought this with plenty of time to spare for the wife's trip to France. Once she got there, it never worked. Even had a tech savvy husband in her travel group check it out, just to be sure. By the time she got it home (it's fairly bulky and heavy), it was too late to get a full refund on it, so I had to eat shipping both ways, as well as a 20% "restocking" fee. There's no way I know of to test this without special equipment, until you get it overseas. Kinda sucks to get charged for something that was defective out of the box, especially when it'd been lugged half way around the globe and back and completely failed. You'd think they might test before it leaves the factory.

I purchased the Simran SMF -200 Watts. converter to be used on a river cruise in Europe.

I'm completely disappointed with this product as it only worked for about a week of usage while on the River Cruise.

Would like very much to return this item and get something else in place of it. Please let me know.

We purchased this for our trip to Europe and thought for the price we were getting a good deal. I love good deals! Really, I do. But in this case the fact that it stopped working on the very first use was pathetic. Which is why I say it was not worth the weight in our suitcase, as it is very heavy for its size! Unfortunately, we waited too long to do anything about getting our money back. You live and you learn.

I bought this for use with a plug converter for an Australian outlet. I tried it out when I got it in my American outlet with a converter and it would only charge very low voltage things. My computer and my lamp were too heavy for it. It barely charged my cell phone. It's wimpy, heavy, and a waste of your time. Don't bother with it. I decided to return it before even owning it for a day because it is defective and doesn't perform as promised.

Received product and it simply did not function what so ever. Also box was all banged up when I got it, looks like its been sitting on a dusty shelf for a good bit of time. Also to be honest if the product did work I would have probably still returned it, thing is so heavy you could beat someone with it. I'm gonna try radioshack next time for something like this.

I liked this device when it cam as it had a short cord and plug that would fit into the sockets without an extender, however when I used it with the phone and laptop, it just shorted out and smelled of smoke and did not work. Fortunately the phone and laptop did not get damaged

I really should have read the reviews already written here more thoroughly before buying this item. Particularly its lack of a internal fuse and that many many of these items appear to die within days or minutes. I.E. They are poorly made. I traveled to Eastern Europe for 3 weeks recently and this power converter lasted for 2 days. After the 2nd day on a 220V outlet using a hair dryer. Boom. Dead. Read a few of the other reviews here and you will see the same thing said. Pay the extra 10-20 bucks for a well regulated, fuse-enabled, voltage converter.

Yesterday I used it with a Honeywell HHT-011 Compact Air Purifier with Permanent HEPA Filter as usual Honeywell HHT-011 Compact Air Purifier with Permanent HEPA Filter , I just woke up morining only to find that the purifier is not working , I told to my self it must be the device , then I checked the converter only to see that the RED indicator light of the converter is not working ,I disassemble the converter no fuse nothing weird .

It's up to you to buy this converter I have a second one and let's see how many months/days it will gonna last with me .

I'll keep you updated with a second review about this , I guess I'm lucky enough to not lose the purifier itself, although I lost the 20 $ plus the international shipping fees .

This voltage converter I purchased from Amazon probably works as advertised, however at a weight of 1.80 pounds per converter, it is simply impractical to carry for international travel. This product is evidently an iron-core transformer that would set off alarms at any security checkpoint. For these reasons, I opted to NOT carry this product on my trip to Europe.
The advertising information makes no mention of these serious drawbacks.

The solid-state voltage converter products work very well, take little space and, at less than two ounces, are excellent for travelers to Europe.

Please refund my cost on the two Simran SMF-200 step-down voltage converters since neither the product advertising nor the package indicates the nearly two-pound weight of this product.

Thank You,
the Fantom

We ended up returning this product to Amazon. The box it arrived in was slightly damaged and looked very old and the product itself looked used. We returned this product and bought a different one (1875 WATTS TRAVEL VOLTAGE CONVERTER) that worked out great. We never got a chance to try the Simran 200 Watts Deluxe out, we didn't want to take a chance on it.

Based upon mostly good reviewer feedback, I purchased this item for a trip to France and paid extra to make sure I had it in time. As others noted, it's very heavy, adding to the weight I had to haul around considerably. That would have been okay with me--if it had worked. The first time out of the box, it died while in use. I thought it was the travel hairdryer I'd bought. My daughter had a very inexpensive simple plug-in converter and she used the hairdryer without difficulty. We tested further and concluded it was this expensive and heavy converter that was the problem--and I had to haul it throughout the rest of the trip to bring it back to the U.S. to return. Amazon was great about the return. I wish the converter had been half as great as Amazon's customer service. Forget this item; it's not worth it.

I purchased this unit for a trip to Ireland. I used it for my curing iron and on the second use it died and can not be brought back to life. It is cheap and is a waste of your money. It is also heavy, I packed it into my carry on during the trip to Ireland and it was added weight I could have left at home.

I am very sorry I decided to buy this item.

This review is from: Simran SMF-200 Deluxe 200 Watts Step Down Voltage Converter for International Travel to 220V / 240V Countries ~ Ideal for Blackberry, Laptops, iPods & Phones etc (Electronics)
I bought this for my 2 month trip to Europe (which i'm only a week into and don't have a voltage converter to use since this one broke) and the first day I got here I used it for my laptop and a few other things like my phone charger, camera charger, etc. but then when I went to do my hair I plugged my blow dryer into it and my blow dryer would hardly even blow hair and then it just stopped so I figured my blow dryer just blew its fuse but then I found out that my converter also stopped working after that. So this product works fine for most things I think just NOT a blow dryer! Don't use it with one or else your money will go right down the drain like mine did. Also, it is actually pretty heavy.. it weighed by bag down quite a bit so remember that for traveling.
